For many people, starting a website and deciding to have an online presence can be a very daunting task. It's tough to know where to begin and who to talk to, not to mention how to find the right designer qualified for the job. A good starting point is to find what you like--simple as that. For instance, what are some of your favorite web sites and what is it about them that keeps you coming back? What sets these sites apart from the others? What sort of things are you trying to accomplish from having an online identity? I have a web questionnaire that you might find helpful. Click HERE to download this document.
Once you have some basic ideas and goals established, it's time to seek out your designer. There are a couple things to keep in mind. First, remember that in order to get positive online attention your site needs to be clean, professional, and striking. Though there are many web design "deals" out there to be had, try to remember that your website needs to be representative of you and your business. Additionally, you want to make sure to hire someone that you get along with and can be trusted to keep your best interest in mind. Don't be afraid to interview several designers---this will allow you to get to know them and their creative process.
